In personal communication with me Pope Benedict's Vatican astronomer, Argentine Rev.Jose Funes  has acknowledged that ex Nazi soldier and ex head of the Catholic Church's  historic organ of the Inquisition Joseph Ratzinger aka Pope Benedict XVI,now known as Pope Benedict XVI,is indeed full of it,although he didn't exactly phrase it in exactly that manner.I had contacted him with a query regarding a message I had put into the hands of the Catholic Church's Pro Nunciate  in the 1980's when he came to Monterey,California to promote the beatification of Junipero Serra that was titled,'The Pope's Misconceptions about Conception and science history'' that was published a few years later as an editorial in the U.C. Berkely Daily Californian in 1987 a few days after Pope John Paul II's visit to San Francisco. At the time I was unaware of his previous life in Argentina and that he himself had blood on his hands and colluded with the very pro U.S.and Iraeli Argenine Generals who had aided them in torture and drug trafficking in Central America in what would become known as Iran-Contra as well as sat silent while innocent and pregnant young wqomwn in Argentina accused of being 'communists' would be held as pregant prisinors to be fattened for the birth to give their babies to elite far right military connected familes and then no longer useful 'baby machines' to be slaughtered and disappeared , oten with thei bodies disposed of  by dropping from planes or helicopters into the Atlantic Ocean.

When contacted by phone and asked if the pope fit the average human statistic of approximately a pound and a half or a bit over half a kilo of phosphates excreted from his body every year or earth orbit, Reverend Vatican Astronomer Jose Funes responded rather irritatedly,Well, after all he is only human.....'

From London Daily Mail :

The Vatican’s top astronomer has some assurances to offer - the world won’t be ending in eight days, despite predictions to the contrary.
Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, said that 'it’s not even worth discussing' doomsday scenarios based on the Mayan calendar that are flooding the Internet ahead of the purported December 21 apocalypse.
The 45-year-old Jesuit priest who is head of the Vatican Observatory and a scientific adviser to
Pope Benedict gave the assurances in Wednesday’s Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore
Romano. He acknowledged that the Universe was slowly expanding but that the destruction of the Earth – if it ever does occur – will not happen for billions of years. But he said Christians profoundly believe that 'death can never have the last word.'
The Mayan Long Count calendar begins in 3,114 B.C., marking time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns. The Mayans wrote that the significant 13th Baktun ends December 21.
A few years ago Father Funes said that extraterrestrial life was a valid area of investigation for the Catholic Church.

The Daily Mail or Vatican Priest-Astronomer Jose Funes may as well as sid the our western of Gregorian calendar 'predicts' that New Years Day will occur on January 1.2013.And indeed whatwe call 'New Years Day' will occur precisely on that date.A brilliant 'prediction' wouldn't you say ? The article as you can see quoted bove states,'The Mayans wrote that the significant 13th Baktun ends December 21' and of course according to their calender indeed it does and is a quite accurate indeed but it 'predicts' nothing except the end of 13 Baktun and the beginning of 14 Baktun ! It's a calendar for gawds sake and NOT an astrological reading !In fact as a measurement of the Mayan Long Count it is so accurate that it can be mathematically corelated to our calander and we call that date December 21,2012 - nothing more and nothing less. Both are calenderic measurements that correspond to dates, future or past.

Above Priest-Astronomer Jose Funes acknowledges that that destruction of the earth itself is many years or as even the Catholic Church accepts it,many earth orbits away. However and for that very reason the church is contributing to the extinction of humanity many many millions of years or earth orbits ahead of that time. You can review the essay that I wrote in 1981 in reponse to Pope John Paul II's claim that birth control was unneccessary because 'modern agriculture' would provide unlimited food for a growing human population.Basically I point out that the church's teaching of Aristotle's four elements,'earth, air, water and fire' has come unglued since the discovery of atoms and he showed himself to be as confused regarding the movement of atoms into and through and out of himself and his parishioners as the pope in Galileo's time was about the movement of the stars and planets and other celestial bodies.Only that while taking ovrer 300 years to pardon Galileo for suggexting to them that the earth was in orbit around the sun and that each year equaled one orbit as Galileo's German colleague Johanes Kepler proved - the present pope(s) did not have another 300 years or earth orbits to realise that the collpse of  'modern agriculture'  could be predicted based upon the mined depletable phosphates that the pope consumed in his food and excreted into the sewage system of Rome alone !

As for fears that the world is coming to an end, Fr José Funes of the Vatican’s astronomical observatory says “not yet”, while affirming that no one should worry about the “prophecies” of a Mayan end-of-the-world scenario. “According to the prophecy, there will be an alignment of the planets and the Sun with the center of the Milky Way as well as an inversion of the Earth’s magnetic poles. It is not the trouble to debate the scientific basis of these affirmations,” said Funes, “which are obviously false.”
Nonetheless, Funes noted that a 2003 trip to the Mayan ruins at Copán in Honduras showed him that the ancient Mayas were indeed very astute observers of the heavens.  According to Funes, the Mayas were not interested in whether or not the Sun was the center of the cosmos. They were more interested in finding “a repeating design of past observations that could be reproduced in the future, given that in that culture time had a cyclical and repetitive dimension.”

.........
Considering the power of intellect displayed by the Mayan civilization,it is wrong for the Catholic priest and astronomer Funes to make claims for what Mayan intellectuals might or might not beinterested in.In my opinion
had a Mayan Johan Kepler appeared with an astrolabe and the abilty to use it and make correct interpretations
and proofs with it that the the earth and other planets such as Venus that was perceived to be a star, did orbit the sun and oebit was elliptical, his observtions would have been incorporated into the Mayan astronomic view and a revised view of astronomy and perhaps even religion might have followed. However the Mayan priests who controlled astronomy as part of their religion may indeed have rebelled and gone for the Mayan Kepler's jugular just as Jose Funes Catholic astronomer priests went for Galileo's jugular.
In both cases religious  mythology and its priests  dictated and in many ways hindered science as much as they supported it.I n the case of Galileo Jusuit priests not only refuted Galileo by reading the dogmatic and unscientific view of the ancient Greek Aristotle tht the universe was composed of five elements - earth air fire and water being the less pure elements down here on earth and the moon that mixed and intermingled with one another as a result of their impurity -and the fifth element that composed the statrs and planets and was a pure elment that didn't mix or intermigle or have contact with the lowlier four. But even more detrimental to Galileo was the Catholic priestly argument that the Bible backed them up against him, citing  Biblical verse in order to pressure the pope to go for Galileo's jugular.:

Considering the probable fact that Mayan priests like their Catholic counterparts had their own religious views and dogmas to protect, which to them as well trancended truth or fact, it is quite possible that they might have been antagonistic to a Mayan Kepler presenting irrrefutable proof of the earth's orbit around the sun as the Catholic priests of Rome were to espousing the same belief and even more so considering that Galileo unlike Kepler didn't really have any proof whatsoever.Nonetheless Galileo's telecopic observation of the the waxing and waning   of Venus just as moon waxed and waned was certainly enough in itself to destroy Aristotle's dogma about srars and planets being composed of a 'fifth element'.This waxing and waning or monthly phases of the moon was why Aristotelians, including Jesuits, included the moon as 'down here in the center'of the universe and like earth to be also composed of the lrss pure four elements - earth, air, water and fire.

In fact the priestly view of of Maya was indeed exactly that of the Catholic priests and Aristotelians in their dogmatic view of an earth centerd universe!:

I have also learned that anonymous members of the Ponifical Academy of Sciences,(coincidentally since Pietro Redondi found, buried deep in Vatican archives, a complaint against Galileo made by Jesuits who were leading the Catholic Church's hate campaign against Galileo and pressuring Pope Pius to through the book or the Bible at him for his audacity in presuming the earth orbited the sun, that  Galileo among his other sins was also an 'atomist' and although like his belief that the earth orbited the sun he had provided no proofs were either belief),secretly had the pope's toilet directed away from the main Vatican sewage line and ran it to a labotatory a short distance from the pope's bedroom where they confirmed that the pope'e in accordance with the average male of the species excreted from his body  approximately a pound and a half of phosphates per year as as Galileo would putr it per earth orbit ,The measurement wasin fact so precise that the pope's could indeed be used like an hour glass if  samples of his excreted phospate  taken daily were measured. And of course if the lab tecnicians measured a pound and a half or a bit more phosphate in the pope's excrement they could actually and were actually measuring the passage of one year or one orbit of the earth aroumd the sun without need of other devices such as calanders or clocks !
Surprisingly although Pietro Redondi in his book,Galileo Heretic',that revealed his discovery of the complaint against Galileo for his belief in atoms,Redondo never discused how modern atomic and molecular chemistry
could now allow us to quantify the flow od atoms through the pope's and everybodies bodies per year or as the Catholic Church now accepts, per earth orbit !Redondi's book first appeared in english in 1987 and was either timed for Pope John Paul's visit to the U.S.and San Francisco by an amazing syncronistic coincidence or was pe-meditated to take publicity advantage of the event. At the same time  Pope John Paul II's visit was likewise an amazing coincidence in that his arrival in San Francxisco was precisely on September 17,1987.
And for me preparing to recite a rhyming version of my essay,' The Pope's Misconceptions about conception and science history' along with other protesters in San Francisco as well as contacting newspapers such as the SF Chronical and SF Examiner and finally the UC.Berkeley Daily Californian when that failed couldn't
belive someoine had found a denunciation of Galileo for a belief in atoms and I thought surely Redondi will put it in modern perspective by writing about population growth and the Church'sa insane interference in the birth control decisions of proplec wwho aren't even Catholic by siding with the far right in America to make abortion illegal again and other alternatives hard to get.I thought surely Redondi would discuss ferilizer and even broach the subjects of fertilzer and thew amount of phosphate that goes into and out of the pope's and everyone's bodies per year or earth orbit. All because no internet existed at that time and although I wrote the nbon-rhyming essay in 1981 after Pope John Paul was quoted as saying in trhe SF Chronical and other world papers on September 9,1981 that birth control was unnecessary because 'modern agriculture' could provide abundant food perpetually ! I immediately because of my interest in the subject realised that it was the very Catholic Church itself tha<t had put the four elements,'earth, air, water' and 'fire' or five including the stars and planets into the European educational system when Saint Thomas Aquinas translated Aristotle's writing from Greek to Latin in the 13th century. And this was only thanks to the Islamic world who saved copies and valued education and knowledge fort knowlede's sake much more than the mainly illiterate Europeans who didn't even have copies of Aristotle's and other Greek philosophers works to translate !
And while I have become a major critic of Aristotle's and the Catholic Church's four elment concept in light of the discovery of atoms starting in the late 18th century and on into the twentieth century and particularly in light of the discovery of the importance of the elements of life and their potential depletion due to soil depletion to maintain population and mitigate losses due to erosion......contine

CUTTING A DEAL WITH THE INQUISTION

By PIETRO CORSI; Pietro Corsi is a historian of science in Florence, Italy. His new book, ''Science and Religion: The Anglican Debate 1800-1860,'' will be published in February
Published: November 15, 1987

GALILEO HERETIC By Pietro Redondi. Translated by Raymond Rosenthal.

In ''Galileo Heretic'' Pietro Redondi, a researcher at the French National Council for Scientific Research, has shown little patience with the traditional account of Galileo's prosecution. Indeed, he peremptorily claims that apologists of the church and historians alike have lost 350 years fighting over a well-planned deception by the Pope, the Holy Office and Galileo himself. Copernicanism was not the true issue in Galileo's trial, according to Mr. Redondi; far more serious accusations were made against the scientist, of such a nature that Galileo himself accepted the relatively mild condemnation of being a supporter of Copernicus rather than face the danger of being burned as a heretic.
Mr. Redondi's story is brilliantly told in a style that admirers of Umberto Eco's novel, ''The Name of the Rose,'' will undoubtedly appreciate, even though at times this English translation appears unable to capture the sparkling tone of the Italian. It begins with the discovery by Mr. Redondi in 1982 of a document relating to ''The Assayer'' in the files of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, usually called the Holy Office. In it an anonymous contemporary informer claimed that the brilliant pamphlet contained a defense of atomism that could be used by Protestants who disputed the church's doctrine of transubstantiation - the changing of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. The accusation, Mr. Redondi claims, was one of extreme gravity in the tense atmosphere of Counter-Reformation theology. The Council of Trent in the 16th century had defined the Eucharistic doctrine in Aristotelian terminology. As Mr. Redondi convincingly argues, the debate over the theory of the Eucharist and the real presence of Christ in the Sacrament came to involve theologians and natural philosophers alike. Roman Catholic theologians, defending the doctrine of the real presence, insisted on the acceptance of the Aristotelian theory of matter, since the Council had couched the doctrine in Aristotelian terms. They felt that accepting a rival theory of matter, such as atomism, would trap one into denying the true presence.

Almost 400 years or earth orbits have elapsed since the deaths Galileo and Johanes Kepler who was the first known astronomer in the history of archeo-astronomy to have not just believed that the earth may move around the sun but who PROVED IT !Although the Mayan astronomers like the Egyptian and Babylonian astronomers were quite impressive in some  their observational skills and the early agricultural civilizations that fed and nourished their both their bodies and minds provided the affluence to devote their lives to nightly observations of stars ansd planets and record them for posterity as well as for practical applications in the agrarian culture they were part of so that they could help illiterate farmers know when it was time to planet their grains and beans and other essential crops,we have no reason to believe or proof, that any of them had
ever believed in in,much less proved and quantified the earth's orbit around the sun until the German Calvanist Protestant Johaness Kepler, who not only proved the planets of the solar system orbited the sun but that their orbits were not circular but eliptical and at points of the ellipses in which a planet was-is further from the sun the planet slows in speed and when the planets are closer to the sun in their elliptial orbits their excellerate in speed.
Also the fact that the Maya were among the only civilizations to independentally conceive of the concept of zero - a concept also attributed to the Hindues of India in the 'Old World',is another example of their free thinking at its best as well as their development of phonetic writing and of course the archtectiural as well as hydroolic and irrigation works and agricultrure abilities in general. However we shall get to their agricultural failure soon enough and how and why it applies to the pope's misconceptions about concetion and science or agriculatural history.

(In my opinion the above statement is not entirely correct nor fair to Johanes Kepler.WhileTycho Brahe was in many ways a spoiled Swedish aristocrat who had a silver nose due to the fact his was cut off in a sword duel,Johanes Kepler came from humble origens and was lucky to have received a free education.Kepler did NOT just take Tycho Brahe's 'painstakingly collected' data - Johanes Kepler also and only by expressing much humility to this spoiled aristocrat ,who refused to accept planetary orbits, was able to make use of Tycho Brahe's astrolabe , that he himself did not own nor could afford,in order to calculate the movement of

planets for himself and of course for posteity and to prove what Galileo and Copernicus only guessed was thew case.)

Pope's Misconceptions about conception and science history

Tony Ryals | 29.10.2005 06:40 | Culture | Ecology | Gender

The pope's apparent ignorance of science history and modern agricultural technology obscures from his vision the disastrous effects of his policy of unchecked population growth on future generations who will find "no food on the table" nor the resources with which to grow it. This ignorance also shows that the pope has no more expertise in the fields of agricultural science, population planning, or resoure management than the pope in Galileo's time did in the area of astronomy.

Pope John Paul II may be gone but Pope Benedict XVI maintains a tradition of ignorance and human materialism that has no justification even in a literal interpretation of the Bible and only insures perpetual human ignorance and misery.

And this statement goes double for the fundamentalist protestants such as America's Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and their ilk, who have promoted human ignorance, hatred, and greed everyday of their worthless lives.

Pope's Stances Lack Scientific Basis
by Tony Ryals
The Daily Californian September 22, 1987

On Nov. 10, 1979, a meeting was held in Rome by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in honor of the 100th year anniversary of the birth of Albert Einstein. The meeting marked the first time in the history of the church, since the formation of its own science academy, that any pope had presided over such a session.

This meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences may well be more memorable for Pope John Paul II's statements regarding science, Galileo, and the church than for the honoring of the centenary of the birth of Einstein himself.

In discussing the case of Galileo and the church, Pope John Paul II addressed the academy as follows:

"Mr.President, you said very rightly that Galileo and Einstein each characterized an era. The greatness of Galileo is recognized by all, as is that of Einstein, but while today we honor the latter before the College of Cardinals in the apostolic palace, the former had to suffer much - we cannot deny it - from men and orgainzations within the church. The Vatican Council has recognized and deplored unwarranted interferences..."

Approximately one year after his Pontifical Academy of Science speech on Galileo, the pope, in criticizing what he termed "artificial" methods birth control, made a notable statement on modern agriculture, simultaneously. The pope stated:

"There are attacks on fecundity itself with means that human and Christian ethics must consider illicit... Instead of increasing the amount of bread on the table of a hungry humanity as a modern means of production can do today, there are thoughts of diminishing the number of those at the table through methods that are contrary to honesty. This is not worthy of civilization."

Now that the pope has pardoned Galileo for telling the church that the earth is in orbit around the sun, it is time to tell the pope that the other half of Aristotle's church-approved cosmology has also come unglued. The "Four Element" concept (earth, air, fire and water) was the other half of the Aristotelian Earth-centered universe adopted by St.Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century.

Although the Renaissance astronomers successfully challenged Aristotle's and the church's geocentric universe several centuries later, atoms still had not been discovered. For this reason the Four Elements remained intact and unchallenged long after the death of Galileo in 1642.

The discovery of atoms in the last couple of centuries has totally transformed our concept of elements. The former "elements", earth and air, are both composed of a variety of elements. We now know that even the ancient element "water" can be further divided into the elements of hydrogen and oxygen. And the element "fire" is now understood to be a form of radiation.

Justus Von Liebig, the 19th century father of agricultural chemistry, and other pioneering chemists did to Aristotle's Four Elements what the Renaissance astronomers did to Aristotle's concept of the Earth as the center of the universe - they overturned it!

Liebig first pointed out the for plants to utilize carbon dioxide in the air for growth, they must have adequate amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in their soil. Unfortunately, in popularizing the N,P,K concept of modern chemical agriculture, Liebig paved the way for overreliance upon energy-intensive fossil fuel consumption in the mining of phosphorus and potassium as well as in industrial production of nitrogen fertilizers.

We now know that for every orbit of the Earth around the sun - one year - the pope, each member of the Catholic Church, and everyone else on the planet consumes in their food and excretes from their bodies approximately two pounds of phosphorus and various quantities of nitrogen, calcium, potassium, iron, and other trace elements. All these elements generally go unrecycled, often into rivers and oceans or even municipal dumps, further enriching fertilizer industries (who will sell the farmers more for a price) at the expense of the Earth's non-renewable mineral nutrient resources.

When the remaining fossil fuels, particularly natural gas, are exhausted, only bacteria and blue-green algae utilizing phosphorus, potassium, and trace elements in "soil-culture" and "aqua-culture" will be likely candidates to fix atmospheric nitrogen for agricultural fertilization.

Both the trade of grains and the direct trade of phosphates speed the depletion of our limited reserves of phosphate rock in the United States, which comes mainly from mining operations in Florida. Deposits in Idaho are also being mined, at present, and Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum has eyed public land near Ojai, Calif. to strip-mine for phosphates.

We should realize the need to conserve our dwindling reserves of phosphates for future generations. The United States not long ago was a net exporter of petroleum, but now we are importers. The same situation could occur with phosphates if we refuse to learn from the past. Some researchers have suggested that we may become dependent upon yet a new OPEC (or Organization of Phosphate Exporting Countries), such as Morocco, with its relatively large rock phosphate reserves.

The U.S. General Accounting Office estimates that our reserves of phosphorus will be depleted some time in the next century. This will inevitably lead to a food and population crisis that will make our oil crisis seem minor by comparison.

The nutrients that subsidize the life of the pope, and everyone on the planet, are a finite resource. Unless the pope realizes the seriousness of the linear flow of elements through himself and the rest of humanity, he shall be partly responsible for contributing to the collapse of modern agriculture.

To sum up, Pope John Paul II is as confused about the movement of atoms as the pope of Galileo's time was about the movement of the Earth and celestial bodies. Based upon the rate of depletion of chemical fertilizers, the present pope does not have 300 years to re-evaluate his view on modern agriculture and birth control. The question still remains as to why the Pontifical Academy of Sciences has not made this disastrous movement of atoms clear to the pope.
